Think Tuscany, and beautiful rolling hills, mist-filled valleys, farmhouses, and cypress-lined roads spring to mind. And, of course, not forgetting the amazing food and wine for which Italy is famed. Join me in the heart of tuscany in Spring 2024, when we’ll explore a UNESCO world heritage site, whilst based close by in the medieval and beautiful town of Pienza.
May is a wonderful time to visit this area. Spring flowers, particularly poppies, will be bursting with colour, and the mornings are still cool enough to allow mist to form and swirl around as the sun rises. Each day we’ll be up before sunrise to capture first light on the undulating luscious green landscape, and we’ll also be out for soft evening light through to the last rays at sunset.

At this time of year the days are long, so in between we can explore some of the ancient towns and villages of the surrounding area in the warm spring temperatures, as well as having some down time at our accommodation. We’ll even photograph the villa used in the closing scenes of the movie Gladiator!
We won’t have a rigid, fixed itinerary on this workshop. Each morning, we’ll be up early for sunrise, followed by breakfast at our accommodation and a little bit of down time to recharge our batteries or have a snooze. Late morning we’ll head out and explore one of the local medieval towns / villages, before returning for a rest, and then heading out for late afternoon / evening light.

Our starting point will be Pisa airport, roughly 2 hours drive from our base in Pienza. We’ll be travelling in an air-conditioned minibus from and to the airport, as well as around the various photography locations. Mark will let you know pickup and drop-off times at the airport, enabling you to book appropriate flights.
Included
• 7 nights accommodation at the 4 star Hotel Corsignano where you will have your own double or twin room
• Breakfasts at the hotel
• All transportation during the workshop
• Airport transfer to / from Pisa airport (if using recommended flights)
• Tuition from Mark McColl

• Meals / drinks not specified
• Insurance (each participant must have adequate travel / medical insurance)
• Flights to and from Pisa airport
Fitness level required
Easy – there are no particularly strenuous walks in this workshop. As always, however, slips, trips and falls are a hazard whilst walking on undulating ground or cobbled streets.

During the day the temperatures are pleasantly warm, so bring loose fitting clothing, walking trousers, raincoat and walking boots / shoes. Temperatures can be cool at dawn, so a warm layer is advised, as well as a hat and lightweight gloves. Don’t forget to bring sunglasses and sunscreen!
